Special Awards
Several years after its inception, DRAW responded to a growing desire to recognize special contributors . . . individuals or groups that gave a little something extra to further the cause of DRAW. And while those who so faithfully contribute to DRAW seldom seek any personal recognition, some kind deeds were simply too generous to go unacknowledged.
In an effort to honor the extra-special efforts of these contributors, DRAW created their own special award, DRAW Person Of The Year.
In addition to Person of the Year, DRAW occassionally names a Company, Group, Couple, and Volunteer of the Year. These awards are presented annually each October at the Texas Motorplex in Dallas during the DRAW Memorabilia Auction.
Throughout the racing season, DRAW's Board of Trustees accepts nominations for these awards and each September during the board meeting at the U.S. Nationals, a lively discussion ensues to decide who will be honored. Sifting through the many kind deeds performed each year by wonderful DRAW supporters, it's a difficult job to narrow the list down to just one recipient, a task best described by board members as "a labor of love".
Alan Reinhart
2005 DRAW Person Of The Year
DRAW's activites are supported by volunteers and members with a wide variety of skills. One critical skill required for success involves expertise in verbal communication. DRAW hosts several fundraising events that require lively, entertaining interaction with an audience - most notably our annual live auctions.
The 2005 Person of the Year is one of DRAW's most vocal spokespersons. Additionally, this person takes advantage of every opportunity to promote the mission of DRAW while interacting with the drag racing community, and capitalizes on that opportunity from the NHRA announcing deck.
Our Person of the Year has also shown the willingness to make personal sacrifices for the sake of DRAW. Several years ago this unselfish DRAW supporter agreed to wear a stunning (see photo above right) evening dress on the starting line of the Texas Motorplex during pre-race ceremonies to raise $2,000 for the injured racer's fund.
DRAW is pleased to honor its 2005 Person of the Year,  Alan Reinhart.
Hartman Motorsports
2005 DRAW Company Of The Year
In 2005, DRAW celebrated its 20th year of service to the drag racing community. During that year, one particular company gave DRAW a unique opportunity to communicate the message. At the 2005 Mac Tools Gatornationals, this generous supporter allowed DRAW to place its 20th Anniversary logo on the side of their top fuel dragster.
Additionally, this company steps up for every fundraising event sponsored by DRAW. Whether it is the annual auctions, the autograph sessions, or golf tournaments, you can count on them to be there in full force.
Virgil Hartman, his family, and the staff of Hartman Motorsports deserve special recognition for their ongoing dedication and commitment to the mission of DRAW.
This year’s Company of the Year award goes to Hartman Motorsports
